You cannot build in the admin tile for the hub. Anyone who builds in this tile will have their build removed by admins.
You cannot block rare or unique spawns with your builds.
You cannot interfere with an admin building even if you purchase a parcel. If you are found to be interfering with an admin building or player access to the admin buildings in a parcel you stand to lose your build.
You cannot build within render distance of the arena.
You should not build inside established areas such as Murun. If you attempt to build there, or near there, you will most likely fall under constant assault and lose your buildings. If you block spawns or access to things players need, you will get a strike. Best option is not to try to settle in established areas.
Builds must make RP sense. You cannot have a build that teeters on the tip of a peak or hangs off of a cliff. If you have a building that doesn't make sense you will be contacted by an admin with a warning to correct the build.
All buildings must have raidable access - which means you cannot have a door or entrance that is only accessible if you pull your bracelet. You also cannot have an elevator as the only means for accessing your location. If you have an elevator, it must have a 1x1 platform around it.
You cannot use placeables to block doors or rooms. Every room must have a door or hatch or some other means for entering that does not require moving or picking up decor or items to access it.
You cannot store any goods in a convergence trap.
You cannot use a hatch as an access point to any location where goods or stations are stored. Hatches by default cannot be unlocked nor can they be lock picked. For this reason, they are only allowed to be used for clan access to areas that do not also have items/goods/stations stored there. One example would be roof access to a building.
Players cannot build in any location that contains a loading area that takes you to another area of the map, such as The Passage. If a parcel is not on the map, you cannot claim it.
You cannot have multiple builds spread across the map on unclaimed parcels. If you have a purchased parcel (or parcels) you must limit your builds to those parcels. If you have not purchased a parcel, you must still limit your build to one location on one parcel. If you want to have a structure at another location you must clear it with the parcel owner and inform the admin team that it is being built. The only exception to this is for the Nomad profession. Nomads may have their base and one tent that they can place outside of their own base. The tent is meant to represent the nomadic nature of the profession and can be anywhere within normal build rules. If you are on someone's purchased parcel, you are still bound by their laws, and they can tell you to leave.
You can build on another clan's purchased parcel if they give you permission to do so regardless of your profession. You are still limited by your building allowance.
Parcel purchases will include one basement as part of your parcel purchase. Your clan will get one basement that will be included in the purchase cost of your first parcel. The basement must be placed on the parcel with which it was purchased. The basement purchases outside of parcel ownership are limited to one per person, and if you are in a clan, the cost for additional basements will be increasingly more expensive. (Clan Fat Bottom has 3 parcels, they have 3 basements. Mud Flap Flappy, the clan leader, wants another basement. The basement costs are 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200.... Since they already have three basements in clan, Mud Flap Flappy must pay 125 for his first personal basement because it is the 4th basement for the clan. This basement can be placed anywhere on any of Clan Fat Bottom's purchased parcels. Clan Lonely Bro with one member has decided to hide in the jungle and not purchase a parcel. He really wants a basement to hide his sexy time chest with his party favors. He can only have one basement and it will cost him 50 gold.
You cannot hide the entrance of your basement. Basements MUST be unlocked (mechanically) and outlaws and raids can include items in the basement. Basements default to LOCKED when you place them. Make sure you unlock these and keep them unlocked.
Players may pay 100 gold to increase the size of their basement as desired up to the max allowable size. You should determine the size you wish to set your basement to in Single Player. If you do not pay this fee, your basement must be the minimum size of 8x8.
ALL BASEMENTS must have their coordinates provided to the admins at the time they are placed (you can get coordinates by using ALT+Shift+L and you can copy by Ctrl+C) and any clan or player that attempts to use basements to violate building rules (having more than one stack of items, having more than 5 tick items active at once, exceeding restricted items, etc.) will receive a strike and may lose the basement.
RP Hubs
Eligible clans may apply for roleplay hub status, which would declare a building on a territory owners' property for the sole purpose of roleplay. Having a building declared as a Roleplay hub will grant the build caravan route from the main city, added after your first event. Eligible building types would be taverns, brothels, etc.
There are two types of RP Hubs - those that can be raided and those that cannot.
When you put your application in for an RP Hub, you must state whether you waive your raid protection.
Once this waiver has been made, you cannot change it.
RP Hubs that do not waive raid protection must specify which building is their RP hub, and that building cannot be raided. These RP Hub buildings are prohibited from storing items unrelated to the hub at that location (you cannot store items you do not wish to lose in a raid at your RP Hub. If you are found to be doing this, you will lose your hub status).
RP Hubs that waive raid protection can be raided at any time and in any way that is in keeping with the raid rules. RP Hubs that waive raid protection can store items and share buildings between their main buildings.
As of now, the limit of RP hubs on the server is at the admins’ discretion. If you are approved for an RP hub, you will receive an additional building allowance (standard allowance is 600) for the build. This will be determined by the type of hub, the usefulness to the hub, how many other similar hubs already exist. RP hubs are also limited by type. The first arena will generally get a larger build allowance, but there is no real need for more than one arena, so if you apply for an arena RP Hub and there is already one on the server, you may be approved, but will only get the standard building allowance. Other types of hubs are also limited in number, such as casinos. These are handled on a first come first served basis, and if you fail to maintain the required events, you will lose your RP Hub status. You can apply for a roleplay hub here.
There are some rules to keep in mind before applying for a roleplay hub:
You must own a parcel and you must have sufficient members in your clan to support a roleplay hub, and you must hold regular roleplay events every two weeks. If you build these types of community buildings without approval you may be asked to halt by an admin. The warp point will only be added after the first event.
Once you have set your first event, send an ad to the admin team to place on the website. Your event will be added to the calendar on the welcome page and a few days before the event we will add it to the quests and events channel. Prior to the event, the Maelstrom token vendor will be put down and any admin assistance you need (thespians, etc.,) will be handled then. The thespians will be turned to active the day of the event and picked up after the event (if they were only in place for the event). A reminder for the event will be posted in quests and events the day before, then the day of the event another reminder will be posted, with a final reminder 30 minutes before the start of the event.
Events cannot take place within an hour of normal restart time.
Current RP Hubs:
The Perch run by Verdant Dreams, located in S24
Building Guidelines:
Maelstrom uses a placeable counting program to determine building size. The size chart is located below showing your maximum amount of placeable objects up to the max clan size currently on Maelstrom. Building pieces are 1 for 1, decor items count as 1/2 of a placeable, so if you place one pillar, that is one item, if you place 2 plates, that also counts as one item. Your current building allotment and expenditure can be viewed by typing /census in any channel and the results will post in #building-census under the Territories category on Discord.
You will gain additional building allowance once you purchase your second parcel. Each additional parcel, beginning at the second one, will add 1000 to your building allowance.

A player’s build must make sense in rp; please be reasonable with your build as you share a server with others. All builds must have a reasonable entrance. Examples are elevators, stairs, doorway, climbing path. If your only entrance point is an elevator, you must also have a landing point that is at least one square larger than the elevator itself. Pulling bracelet cannot be the only option for gaining access.
Your build must have a valid land claim – meaning in order for the location to belong to your clan, your build must consist of floors, walls and ceilings, sealed to create a room, or a campsite. Invalid land claims are able to be destroyed by any player for any reason. Scroll to the bottom for examples of valid land claims.
You are allowed to stack foundations only to support buildings that are valid land claims, and you should only use them if necessary for stability issues or due to building type. Foundations should not be stacked higher than two, and they cannot be used as a wall. You should only stack two high if the terrain is such that you need to stack two high to build. If you need to level out your structure you should utilize fence foundations or pillars with ceilings and walls to bring your floor all to the same level.
Each Solo Player/Clan can have 1 wheel of pain. The reason for this limitation is because the game now allows you to drag thralls through any terrain and you can also port home with your captured thrall. The wheel must be at your base.
Each clan can have one stack of a resource in a central storage area and one stack of a resource in a dedicated RP area for a crafting archetype(such as alchemist, loremaster, etc) - items in your crafting stations that are being crafted or produced do not count against this number. Stack size is greatly increased on the server, so one stack of hide, or one stack of iron bars, or one stack of alchemical base.
Do not leave bedrolls at locations outside of your own base while you are offline. You can set bedrolls out for use while you are working on something, such as a dungeon or bosses, but when you log out please remove these bedrolls or they are subject to being destroyed by anyone who finds them.
Map rooms are prohibited. There are in game means of transportation available to you. We also encourage the use of mounts for transport.
You may not build in/on/under dungeons, inside cities, rare spawn areas or any place that would block the only path to an area designed for server player use.
Each clan is allowed 3 shrines that leave map markers, unless you are a Mitra follower, which restricts you to 1 shrine. If you wish to have more than 3 shrines, the religions should make sense and not be at odds with one another, and you must buy the token from the architect vendor in the hub and place the shrines that do not leave map markers. Anyone who violates religious lore may be subject to religious retribution by the gods.
If a player wishes to construct a bridge, elevator, or other structures to facilitate ease of travel across a river, over a mountain, etc. it must be made publicly available for use and approved by an admin. It will also count toward your building allowance.
Water blocks, fire, planes, motes, and fog are restricted based on clan members. If you have 1-5 members in your clan, you can have any combination of water blocks, fire, planes and fog, up to four total. If you have 6-10 members you can have any combination of water blocks, fire, planes and fog, up to six total. If you have 11-15 members you can have any combination of water blocks, fire, planes and fog, up to eight total.
Waterfalls are restricted based on clan members as well. If you have 1-5 members in your clan you can have one waterfall. If you have 6-10 members in your clan you can have two waterfalls. If you have 11-15 members in your clan you can have three waterfalls.
Sky Beams are restricted based on clan members as well. If you have 1-5 members in your clan you can have one sky beam. If you have 6-10 members in your clan you can have two sky beams. If you have 11-15 members in your clan you can have three sky beams.
Clans may have a total of 6 thespians at their base. They can also have 1 additional thespian at the marketplace. All other requirements and costs apply.
Clans may have a total of 10 spike traps in their build.
Basements are restricted to one basement per player and additional restrictions and costs come with owning a basement.
Follower Allowance
Players Thralls/Pets that are set out should be kept on a wall or elevated position to defend a player's base / village and are not allowed to be killed unless in a raid. HOWEVER, if thralls are let loose and chase players away from a base / village, players are allowed to kill them even if not in a raid. If a thrall chases you and you kill it, you must take a screenshot of the location of the body to show that the thrall was not in a protected area.
A player is allowed to have up to 6 active followers – thralls, pets, or mounts. Any combination of pets, mounts, or thralls to total 6 is allowed. As an example, a clan of 10 would have a limit of up to 60.
You may only have one animal pen and one taming pen out and they must be placed within sight of your home.
Ravencrest Courier objects (mailbox, coops, and bird cages from that mod - meaning anything you can send, receive, or send and receive messages in) are limited. A clan may have one clan specific mailbox and coop of any type, and then each player in a clan may have a coop, bird cage, or mailbox of their own to send/receive things. This means that a clan of 4 could have a general-purpose mailbox, coop, and then 4 more coops for a total of 5 objects. Please only place these if you intend to actually send or receive personal mail - each clan will want to have at least a coop in order to receive mail. All birdcages, coops, and mailboxes must have a roleplay appropriate name. Every placed Ravencrest Courier object will display to others as <Clan Name> (Written Name) for the object. Example: Defiance (Tamsin's Owl)
Tick Items
All tick items are restricted to 5 active per clan. Clans can have more than five tick items placed, but cannot have more than five tick items active, or turned on, at one time. A tick item is anything that turns on to DO something - it could be an armorer's bench, a tannery, planters, animal pens, etc.. You can have as many of these items placed as you wish but you cannot have more than 5 of these items producing things at the same time. This includes items placed in a basement. Also be mindful of the limit on specific building pieces and stations listed above. Emberlight Planters and many of their stations are special in that they work on custom event ticks. These stations tick once when you activate them and once when you check them again to harvest them, meaning that they do not always count against your tick limit.
There are a few items that are constant tick items, so if you have them placed, they are on and working. If you turn them off, they will automatically turn back on after each server restart. If you have one of these items, it will ALWAYS count toward your total. The list of items confirmed as constant tick items are:
Each clan can have two stables placed at once.
IF YOU BLATANTLY DEFY THE BUILDING RULES YOUR ITEMS MAY BE REMOVED WITHOUT WARNING TO BRING YOU INTO COMPLIANCE. WE WILL ALWAYS TRY TO GIVE 24 HOUR WARNING ON DISCORD FOR BUILDING VIOLATIONS, BUT IF WE FIND A NUMBER OF ITEMS IN OBVIOUS EXCESS OF WHAT IS STATED IN THE RULES, THOSE ITEMS WILL BE REMOVED WITHOUT WARNING.
Examples- Valid Land Claims
A tent with stations physically under the tent, obviously protected. A chest within sight of an established base or on an overhang or a porch, also protected. A cave, clearly lived in - also protected.
A fully enclosed building(four walls and a roof) with a valid entrance.
