Star elves, sometimes called mithral elves, are a rare, perhaps mythical race of elves that come from the stars. They are well known among scholars as the most highly advanced race of elves in existence. For thousands of years they made their home in the Yuirwood with other elves. They cared not for other races, finding most to be too primitive and crude for their tastes. They enjoyed their isolated existence and saw little reason to change. Other races, however, began to press in on them and they soon found humans at their borders. Their infinite patience proved, in this instance, to be detrimental. Their standard approach to most things is to wait it out. If their long lives had taught them anything, it was that after a few hundred years rarely did things remain problematic. This time, however, this philosophy backfired. The humans did not cease in their efforts to expand into the elven territories, and unlike elves, humans tend to breed and multiply at a much faster rate, providing generations of invaders to refresh the numbers of the human conquerors. After several hundred years with little relief, the elves lost and retreated farther into the wilderness. Within 200 years of their defeat, they were further assaulted by orcs and suffered heavy losses.
As centuries passed and the elves saw the expanding borders of the orcs and humans, they knew they needed to find a safer home for themselves. The elven mages created a network of stone circles and used them to channel a spell that would allow them to travel to other planes. After exploration of many different planes and worlds, many of the star elves decided to make their home in one of the new lands they had explored. They flourished in their new homes for two millennia until they were forced out by sorcerers who corrupted the new lands with magic. Once more the star elves spread out to find a suitable place to relocate, some becoming trapped, some settling down, and some returning to report on what they have found.
Statistics
Age
Star elves are the longest lived of all of the elves. They can live to be a thousand years old. For the purposes of Maelstrom, no star elf can exceed 950 years old. They tend to reach full physical prime by age 120. 500 is considered to be middle aged, and 850 and beyond is considered venerable.
Appearance
Star elves resemble moon elves more than any other type of elf. Their pale skin can take on light or grey tinge, or hints of pale violet. Their hair is generally gold, silver, white or red. Eyes are usually gray, violet, or gold. They are tall and thin, with men falling within 5'6" up to 6" in height, weighing around 140 pounds (IQoL 1.0 - 1.2). Women tend to be about a foot shorter than the men and weigh around 100-110 pounds. They are graceful and have a striking appearance.
Demeanor
Star elves tend to be cautious and aloof, maintaining a safe emotional distance from most others, including other elves. They are judgmental, snobbish, and believe themselves to be far more advanced than most other races. They are not, however, rash in their judgments, they will take their time and watch someone for a lengthy amount of time before passing judgment on others. The same holds true for their actions, they tend to wait a great amount of time before deciding on a course of action, even when it seems that wait will be detrimental to themselves or those around them. Although difficult to obtain, once friendship (or animosity) has been established, it is difficult to disrupt. Star elves love beauty, performance, and all forms of artistry. They also tend to view beauty as an inward measure of a person and base their opinion of someone's worthiness on their actions. Although imminently talented in most art forms, they rarely exhibit or share this with those outside of their own close community. Although patient, most star elves tend to be chaotic in nature. Star elves are not open or welcoming to non-star elves. They do not abide by flashy behavior, flamboyancy or the goings on of younger races. They understand that there are races that are far less advanced than themselves, and they understand that, in the Exiled Lands, they must be around these races, but they will never open up to these individuals or welcome them into their inner circle.
Society
Star elves are secluded, however, their history has forced them to take refuge with and rely upon other elves. They oftentimes hide their true identity and may pass themselves off as moon elves to protect their identity and prevent others from trying to exploit their advanced knowledge. They have, for most of their history, distanced themselves from all races, and as such, they have little understanding or time for the other races. They view humans as aggressive conquerors whose only desire is to expand at all costs. They treat all races with caution and distrust. They are guarded even with other elven races, believing the moon elves to be too attached to the mortal races. They are most comfortable among sun and wood elves. Most live where they can blend in or hide the easiest, although they would never chose to live beyond the sight of the sky, such as in caves or underground.
Diet
Star elves are restricted to plant based foods only can eat fruit, nuts, grains, and milk. They cannot digest eggs, white meat, red meat, or any kind of meat. Milk and cheese, nuts, fruits, and grains are fine.
Magic
Star elf casters have access to high magic, far higher other races in Hyboria, but the Star elves here in the Exiled Lands are limited to the same type of magic that others have. Star elves generally combine their technology with their magic, and the Exiled Lands is primitive in both of those areas. Their spells are vastly more diverse because they have had to deal with dimensional travel, existing in space, traveling through the phlogiston and through different crystal spheres. The reason we include this information here is for backstory. If you are a mystic, you would have knowledge of other things, but still limited to what is available in the Exiled Lands.
Technology
Star elves have harnessed the ability to travel between worlds, dimensions and realms. They have been around, seen and studies far more advanced technology, although some of it is powered by magic, some by science and some by a bit of both. Star elf spellammers - ships that can travel through the phlogiston and to other crystal spheres- are powered by helms, which are powered by gems. On Maelstrom, the Star Elves used gates to travel, they do not have access to spelljammers, but they are aware of what they are. They have also studied and are familiar with more mundane technology - such as electric rail cars (trains). They have seen variants of rail cars that are powered by elemental magic as well.
Favored Profession
Many star elves are talented in many different things given their long life span and their patience. They are particularly well suited in all things mechanical and engineering. They are talented artisans and performers, although they will not perform in front of those they do not consider close friends or family.
Enemies
Orcs, half-orcs, goblins and dark elves.
Restrictions:
Star elves are heavily regulated on the server because they have access to information and technology that extends beyond what exists in Hyboria. They are limited in their class, archetypes and their alignments. They cannot be evil, warriors, they cannot be vampires, undead, demonologists, liches, beast masters, shaman who shift forms, or battle masters. There are a limited number of slots available for star elves because of their rarity. If you apply for this race and there is no available slot, you will be placed on a wait list.
