Dwarves are a natural humanoid race with a long history. They adhere tightly to their traditions, they take their familial relationships seriously, and are renown for their high quality weapons and armor as well as their beautiful craftsmanship. Most tend toward artisan professions, but still others prefer the life of an adventurer.
Dwarves are a long-lived race, but they don’t live as long as elves. Most are considered to have reached adulthood by the age of 50-60. Most are still active well into the hundreds and a few live beyond the 300 year standard.
Most dwarves are not easy to like, lack charm and tend to congregate with their own race, however, they will drink with anyone and they appreciate craftsmanship and hard work, so if you are looking for a way in with a dwarf, alcohol, hard work and skill in crafting are the three most common ways to get your foot in the door.
Dwarven friendship doesn’t come easily and it must be earned. They are naturally suspicious of most people, and their general view is you can’t be trusted until you earn that trust. Once trust is gained, you have a devout and loyal companion. The flip side of this being that any indication that you have betrayed them, even a hint of it, will bring about a vicious and unrelenting campaign for vengeance. For them, loyalty is more than a thought, idea or word. It is a gift and a mark of respect. Many tales of dwarven sacrifice to save companions flow through the songs and tales belted out at dwarven taverns. The most common undoing of a dwarf is their wrath or greed getting the better of them.
Dwarves value the ties between family and friends, which leads them to create and maintain close knit clans. Elders are respected and those who have proven themselves are given positions of advisors once they can no longer lift an axe.
