This is a guide to walk you through the steps you need to create your character and make sure you are rules compliant with your character creation. This is a must read for all players. You must follow the same process for every character you create. If you see blue text on the website, it is a link, and you should click it to get additional information.
These steps are all required BEFORE you leave the starting area. If you leave the starting area and you have not completed these steps, you may get a strike for rules violations. The steps are here, as well as being part of the thespian scripts in the starter area, so there is no reason for you not to be fully compliant before you leave the starting area.
STEP ONE:
Join our Discord server at discord.gg/maelstrom
STEP TWO:
Join the server. The server information and the mod list are in the Server Info Mods channel in Discord.
STEP THREE
Create your character and make sure your name is lore appropriate.
STEP FOUR
Post your consent sheet in discord. This is required for all players. You do not need a separate sheet for all characters. This is an OOC form that lets us as admins know you are 18 or older, and it gives the other players an idea about what you are comfortable with in role play. This is also used to limit the type of PvP consequences you can hand out. The provided template must be used. You cannot use non-definitive answers for any of the categories. Every answer must be yes or no. This is an RP server, so stating that something depends on the role play is a given. All players can, at any time, for any reason, fade to black a scene, regardless of your consent form. Be advised that your consent form does not insulate you from consequences, if you state that you do not consent to torture, that does not mean someone else cannot torture you. You can fade to black any scene you are uncomfortable with, but it does mean that you cannot give that as a consequence to others for a PvP consequence.
You can access our discord above, and the channel you need is Consent Form.
The template is pinned at the top of the channel. You can copy that template, paste it, make sure your character name and your discord name are the same, then post the sheet.
The template, a valid consent form, and an invalid form are as follows:
STEP FIVE:
Create and post your character ticket in discord. You can do this in the Contact an Admin channel.
Scroll down to the last option in that channel, copy the template, click “create sheet”, paste the template into that ticket. Fill out only the information that you have. We will pin the entry to your ticket, and as you level, gain, or lose things, you will edit that pinned entry.
Any rolls you have to make, any RP spells you cast, anything that your character does will be posted in your character sheet. These tickets will remain open for the life of your character.
The template for the Character Ticket, a description of what each section is for, and examples, follow:
STEP SIX:
Make your way through the starter island(known as Auri's Pointe), following the direction of the thespians there until you reach the top of the mountain. As you navigate through the quests you will be introduced to both setting up your character sheet(accessible via Shift + R) and your discord character sheet. Make sure you have these complete before you enter the dungeon at the top of the mountain as you will need to make rolls and these should be recorded in your discord character sheet.
STEP SEVEN:
Create a clan for yourself if you are not planning on joining an existing clan within the first hour of play. Placing or building anything in the world without being in a clan is a rules violation and is subject to immediate removal.
STEP EIGHT:
Speak to the final thespian(wyvern taxi) to leave the starting area. You should make sure you read the quick start, character rules, race, and professions pages first. The other pages can be read as you move through game play. You are expected to know things that directly apply to your character, such as racial lore, spells, etc., You do not need to know racial lore or profession rules that do not directly apply to you.
If you have any questions you can post those in your character ticket.
